    Mrs. Clara Elizabeth Smith, wife of Arthur D. Smith, 87 Perkins Street, South Townsville, died at Towns- ville early on Monday morn- Ing, after a lengthy Illness. Born in Brisbane, 66 years ago, she had been a resident of Townsville for over 60 years. She was very well known to old residents as Clara Melchert, of the Met- ropole Hotel in the early 1900 and in later years was well known to patrons of the Ex- change Hotel, Flinders Street. She is survived by her husband, Arthur D. Smith well known on the waterfront, four sons, Tully; a brother, Henry Mel- chert, Townsvllle, one brother, Bill Melchert, pre- deceased her her sbout six ago.
