After the ceremony a quiet re ception was held at the Sea View Hotel, when Mrs. Smith, mother of the bridegroom received the guests In a black georgette and lace frock, with hat to tone.   • Obituary: 22 June 1954; Mrs. Clara Elizabeth Smith, wife of Arthur D. Smith, 87 Perkins Street, South Townsville, died at Towns- ville early on Monday morn- Ing, after a lengthy Illness. Born in Brisbane, 66 years ago, she had been a resident of Townsville for over 60 years. She was very well known to old residents as Clara Melchert, of the Met- ropole Hotel in the early 1900 and in later years was well known to patrons of the Ex- change Hotel, Flinders Street. She is survived by her husband, Arthur D. Smith well known on the waterfront, four sons, Tully; a brother, Henry Mel- chert, Townsvllle, one brother, Bill Melchert, pre- deceased her her sbout six ago.

    bonds of matrimony to Mr. Arthur
    Douglas Smith, second son of Mr. and
    Mrs. A. D. Smith, of Aitkenvale,
    Townsville. The Rev. Canon Williams
    officiated. The bride, who entered the
    church on the arm of Mr. George
    Burns, who subsequently gave her
    away, looked charming in a frock of
    Ivory marlette, bodice prettily tuck-
    ed with a French smocked waist, and
    silver lace over Celanese satin. She
    carried a bouquet of white roses and
    orange blossom. Miss Ann Harper,
    friend of the bride, acted as brides-
    maid, and wore a pretty frock of pink
    mariette and lace with semi-flared
    skirt and cascade of lace on bodice,
    picture hat to match. Mr. William
    Smith carried out the duties of best
    man. After the ceremony the party
    motored out to the residence of Mrs.
    Barker, Surry street, Hyde Park,
    where refreshments were partaken of
    and a very enjoyable evening was
    spent.
